I bought an Ipod Photo and when i realized that almost all of my mp3 files didnt have pictures or album cover/art i was quite upset. After searching the web for a good mp3 tag editor WITH ability to auto-download the cover art directly to the file, i found out that there's not a lot of good software that does this. Of Course you can use Musicmatch Jukebox or Windows Media Player to get pictures but they are not very good for tagging, auto-complete fields or batch renaming. I tried many programs but not one works as well as this one. I have more than 10 000 MP3 and i got them organized, renammed with correct tags and album cover very quickly using this software. It's great for my Ipod photo !!!

Download Tags from FreeDB

mp3Tag can employ a number of techniques when editing tags of MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, APE, OGG Vorbis, AAC, WavPack, MPC/MPP/MP+, and M4a/MP4 files. If all the information is already present in filenames and folder names, you can easily extract it with the program. It is also possible to tag audio files from a text file.

But if the information isn't there at all, or if it is somehow incomplete, you can download tags from the internet. mp3Tag offers support of two powerful services: Amazon and FreeDB.

To get tags from FreeDB, you don't need any information at all. You files may be named like "01.mp3", "02.mp3" etc., with no other information. FreeDB servers don't use the information anyway.

However, they do use another kind of information. That's why your files should meet two conditions:

they should be in their original order (like on the CD)
no tracks should be missing from the album, and no extra tracks should be present.

If you have extra tracks in the directory, just skip them when selecting files.

What about the order?

If your files are named like "track01.mp3" etc., they will be automatically sorted as required. If the files are named by their titles (which destroys the original order), they do contain some information (at least titles), so you can use other possibilities. We discuss how to restore the original order in the section about Amazon.

So, let's do it.

Select all files from the album. Click "Generate tags":

In the new window, click the "Get data from FreeDB" tab:

Make sure that your internet connection is established. Click the "Get album info" button. Wait while the program connects to a FreeDB server and fetches information (usually it takes no time at all).

If needed, select proper album from the dropdown list. Finally, click "Save tracks info" at the bottom of the window.

From now on you can rename and sort your files using the downloaded information.
